Jasmine Rose is a visual artist, designer, techie and beauty entrepreneur. Her art explores black American visual culture in the form of collage, Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) and experimental video.
Largely her work encompasses the ethereal beauty and essence of black American beauty and culture, often through a sociopolitical lens. Many of the collages and video reflect an interest in a specific type of black American visual culture: commercial beauty, fashion, product advertising and marketing of the 1960s. Each work takes on a life of its own through bold use of color, layers, subject matter, imagery and overall composition. Her more recent work explores and challenges the dichotomy between self and topics surrounding black American family life.
Born in nineteen eighty-eight, Rose grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. She received a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Art and Design with a minor in Ethnic Studies from the University of North Texas.
She currently lives and works in Washington, DC.
